House clearance in Surrey: what to expect

What happens during a house clearance, how to prepare, and what to look for in a licensed team. A plain guide for Surrey homeowners.

If you’ve not had a house clearance done before, it can feel uncertain. What actually happens on the day? What do you need to sort beforehand? Here’s a plain walkthrough.

What actually happens

A clearance team arrives, looks at what needs to go, loads it into the truck, and takes it to a licensed transfer station for disposal. That’s the core of it.

How smoothly it goes depends largely on access — how far items need to be carried, whether there are stairs, and whether the route out is clear. Good access makes a real difference to how the job runs.

What to do beforehand

A little preparation helps the job go smoothly and usually keeps the cost down.

Move your keep pile first. Put anything you’re keeping in one room or mark it clearly. Once loading starts, you don’t want to be sorting items mid-job.

Flag anything unusual when you book. Old paint cans in the garage, a roof that might have asbestos sheeting, disconnected appliances — mention these when you call. They don’t always change whether we can take the job, but they affect how we plan it.

Go through drawers and old furniture first. Clearance teams work fast. If there are documents, valuables, or keepsakes tucked away, deal with those before we arrive.

Tell us about access. Narrow driveway, parking restrictions, steep garden steps — let us know in advance so we can bring the right setup.

How pricing works

We price by the load:

  • Quarter load — from £189. A small single-room job or a handful of large items.
  • Half load — from £329. A partial clearance or a two-to-three room job.
  • Full load — from £449. A full property clearance or a larger accumulated volume.

Give us a rough description when you call — rooms involved, any large appliances, what you think is there — and we can give you a sensible indication before booking.

What we’ll take

Most things in a typical home: furniture, mattresses, white goods, household clutter, bags of mixed odds and ends. Garden waste mixed in is fine too. If it’s come out of a Surrey home and you’d rather it didn’t go back in, we can almost certainly take it.

Items we can’t take include asbestos and hazardous waste (larger volumes of paint, solvents, motor oil). If you’re unsure about something, describe it or send a photo when you call.

Your duty of care

When you hand waste to a clearance company, you’re legally responsible for making sure it’s handled properly — even after the van drives away. The thirty-second check is to look up any carrier on the Environment Agency’s public register before you book, and to ask for a waste transfer note when the job is done. Our fly-tipping and duty-of-care guide covers the full picture.

We’re registered under CBDU619794 and send through a waste transfer note on every job.
